Finally, after 4 months of waiting, the Nissan Dealership found the required parts for the Takata airbag recall and my wife and I picked up her car yesterday. Only trouble is they didn’t put the goddamn steering wheel back on straight! It’s almost off by 45 degrees to the left.
I’m supposed to trust that they wired the new explosives properly when they can’t even tell if the steering wheel is on straight?

But did they include this protective blue tape like the BMW dealer did on my car? If you don’t have the tape you’re not safe!

The GM dealer that replaced ours put a large scratch in the dash right under the airbag cover, and tried to cover it up with some glossy lacquer... They would not own up to it. All I can do is shake my head.

I took pics of mine right before they did it, for this exact reason.

I was concerned that getting the airbag on my wife’s Matrix replaced would be an issue once Toyota finally got around to issuing a recall for it (they only recalled cars in southern states to start with). Especially with the amount of time some people on here seem to be waiting to get it fixed. They finally expanded the recall to include us last month and the dealer did it right away while the car was getting serviced for something else, I was pleasantly surprised.

When my dad worked at a Toyota dealer he had to do warranty work on a car that included removing the steering wheel. When the customer came to pick up the car they came back screaming mad saying my dad had put it on upside down and started raising a riot. My dad walked out to the car, turned the wheel, and it was perfectly fine. The car had just been parked with the wheels turned... which made it look like it was out on wrong. He has many good stories. Yes it was a Prius.

I had a Honda dealer do that on my junky 01 Civic - I couldn’t believe it. Never, ever went back once they straightened it. I don’t understand how that kind of basic, but so blatant kind of screw up happens.

Took this a few years ago. Yup, the wheels are straight.
This wasn’t after a dealer trip either... I don’t know what happened but the front wheels just sort of decided they didn’t want to correspond with the steering wheel. It didn’t feel loose at all either, felt normal—at least as normal as a base model Fiesta can feel.

It doesn’t just happen with airbags. I had an alignment done on my old truck and they gave it back to me with the steering wheel rotated 20° to the left. There’s no way the alignment was that far off when I took it in. At least they were good about fixing their mistake.

I had a Buick Regal GS that went into the dealer to replace the clutch. When I picked up, clutch still had a problem, so service manager took it for a driver and came back said it was fine (it wasn’t, but that’s a whole separate issue). When I got into the car and took off, the steering wheel was 45 degree off center. It was not a matter of the wheels being turned. That was when the car was driving straight. Service manager never said anything after his drive, which was the first of many red flags for this dealer.

I’m a little surprised by the need to pull the wheel to do the airbag work, unless it’s going for some part deep in the column that I’m not aware of. When I replaced the steering wheel on my Mazda I was a little afraid of working on the airbag, but two bolts on the side of the wheel then two wires and the whole airbag assembly was removed without actually having to remove the wheel itself. This was done in just a minute or two (after disconnecting the battery, of course) with the only tools needed being a 10 (or 13mm - I can’t remember) socket and something to gently release the clips on the airbag. Simple as can be.

If you remove it, your BMW’s turn signals will not work.

We had an alignment done a month or so prior to storing the car at the dealership for 4 months. The wheel was straight at that time...

Who knows? The wheel was straight when we dropped the car off to be stored at the dealer 4 months ago. I’ve never heard of alignment things happening while the car sits unused.

They scratched up my horn pad and column cover. I thought about making a fuss, but I just wanted my car back.

“the Nissan Dealership found the required parts for the Takata airbag recall “
You are aware nissan has no control over parts supply for this recall right?
